Demolition Services
Successful and professional demolition involves much more than simply knocking down a building and dumping the debris in a landfill site. Every project needs to consider the latest legislative requirements, health and safety issues, and environmental factors. That means you need a contractor with the staff, expertise, and experience to manage every aspect of the project.
Choosing an experienced and reputable demolition contractor can be the difference between a costly start to your reconstruction project and a sound basis on which to proceed.
Metro has built an outstanding reputation over the past decade by working closely with our clients and ensuring that each demolition project is planned and managed to a successful conclusion. Above all, you can be sure that the right resources will be available for the project from the outset and that work will be carried out efficiently, safely, and cost-effectively.
We're also specialists in recovering value from a structure and keeping the need for disposal to a minimum. Our recovery techniques mean that an ever larger proportion of buildings can be salvaged and create significant cost savings for our clients.
Soft Strip-Out
Before demolition work begins, we systematically remove:
- all fixtures;
- all fittings;
- all services;
- any temporary structures.
Metro will also assess the structural design of the building and manage the necessary response to such things as the presence of asbestos or underlying structural anomalies.
Long Reach
The days of the wrecking ball as a major demolition tool are numbered. The combination of taller buildings, the pressure to deliver rapid redevelopment, and an increasing awareness of health and safety issues means that the long reach excavator is becoming the tool of choice.
The long reach excavator is designed to reach the upper stories of buildings. Using it gives us more control over the demolition of tall buildings within populated areas and increases the speed and cost-effectiveness of the demolition.
Metro is one of a small number of contractors able to offer long reach demolition work using their own plant. This makes the option even more cost-effective for our clients but also guarantees that we have the experience and expertise to understand the ins and outs of using such equipment. For instance, we perform a complete investigation of ground conditions before any operations begin: we know that it's essential to provide a stable base for the excavator if accidents are to be prevented and incidental damage avoided.
Deconstruction
Deconstruction takes longer than a straightforward demolition but the process often generates increased value for the project. Before work begins, Metro will engage with developers to assess the possibilities for salvaging material for recycling or reuse, ensuring that all economic and environmental factors that can affect any decision are taken into account. Our skilled staff will then strip a building of agreed materials before demolition begins.
Health & Safety
We ensure all relevant Metro staff are fully trained in all areas of deconstruction. We also make it our business to study and conform to all the legislative requirements in the areas of recycling, waste disposal, and salvage.
